BADC (Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation) has developed 20 new potatoes suitable for export and industrial use for the first time in Kushtia. These potato types were grown experimentally in Sadar upazila on around two acres of land. Farmers are interested in producing these types because they yield twice as much as traditional varieties and are disease resistant. Agriculture experts expect BADC's project to impact the country's food security significantly. Kushtia BADC cold storage has built up demonstration plots of 20 new potato varieties on around two acres of land in Jagati village of Kushtia Sadar upazila for multi-location performance testing in the 2021-22 season, according to Kushtia BADC sources.

These potato varieties are grown thanks to funding for projects that support the production and storage of high-quality seed potatoes and boost farmer distribution. Sunshine, Prada, Santana, Edison, Queen Annie, Labella, and a few others are among the varieties available.
