Banana harvest on the island of Crete, Greece starts around the 14th of September and continues through May. The demand for Cretan bananas is growing due to the nice aroma and taste however, the island is capable to produce only 1,500 MT annually which is not sufficient to meet the domestic consumption. With the start of the harvest, farm gate prices are starting from €1/kg and the Cretan bananas get sold at around €4/kg in retail markets in Athens.
