To expedite onion shipment and enhance the availability of the vital culinary item in the domestic market, Bangladesh's Ministry of Commerce (MoC) has recommended that the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) prolong the present import permit (IP) issue facility for onion till Eid-ul-Fitr, the end of Ramadan, 2022.
The MoC encouraged the MoA to take the necessary steps in this regard. It warned that if the IP issuance facility expires, the local onion market could become turbulent. Under the terms of the MoA, the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) can issue the IP until 29 March 2022, when the IP issuing facility for onions ends. The Ministry of Commerce stated that the facility should be maintained to assist increase onion supply.
