The bluefin tuna wholesale price has dropped 40-50% compared to 2020. This is because Taiwan entered Phase 3 of COVID-19 status on May 19, where only the necessary operation remains open. Bluefin tuna being premium seafood were mostly consumed raw in Japanese restaurants and now that restaurants are only open for take-out, the demand for bluefin tuna has decreased drastically. The government is proposing an aid package to help bluefin tuna suppliers.
