Wheat Market is constantly growing in Cameroon

In 2020, Cameroon imported 860,000 MT of wheat, partly used by the bakery industry. In 2021, this figure was estimated at 900,000 MT, with Russia alone covering 30% of the demand. According to wheat flour manufacturers, the rise in international trade expenses generated by the COVID-19 pandemic has led to a 40% increase in a 50kg bag of wheat flour production cost.

Obviously, such a situation has a severe impact on the bakery industry, threatening to increase the price of “bread” consumed by almost all of the population during breakfast. In an attempt to maintain social peace, the government has joined in the negotiations to secure other competitive wheat suppliers. Given that internally little or nothing is being done to increase the domestic production of wheat, import figures will continue to rise, making the country a stable and attractive market for competitive wheat suppliers.
