Pomegranate production and export competition

According to the Egyptian General Organisation for Export and Import Control, the country's pomegranate production will reach 247,000 tonnes this year. They mainly export pomegranates to Europe and Russia. Demand for the wonderful strain from Egypt is higher in comparison to the last season. Normally there is no demand until early October, but this year there are already orders from mid-August. However, the harvest at some companies was delayed by about two weeks. Prices are expected to come under pressure with the entry of other new pomegranate producing countries, such as Turkey, Israel and Spain.
