Chile and China Sign Historic Agreement Allowing Fresh Chilean Salmon Imports During Chile Week 2023

During Chile Week China 2023, an important trade event, Chile and China signed a historic agreement allowing Chilean salmon farming companies to export Pacific salmon (Coho salmon) to China in a fresh format. This achievement, a goal pursued for over two decades, was realized during President Gabriel Boric's state visit to China. The significance of this agreement lies in China's position as a strategic market for Chilean salmon and trout. Notably, from Jan-23 to Sep-23, China received 34.46 thousand tons of Chilean salmon and trout valued at USD 251 million, marking a substantial 71% increase in quantity and a 67% increase in value compared to the same period in 2022 when 20.16 thousand tons were exported for USD 150 million.
