The harvest season of Chinese Garlic is in May. In 2022, garlic farmers are concerned with the lowest prices in the past 2 years. Even though there was delayed sowing the last October, which was regarded as a signal of lower yield, there were higher yields thanks to good weather conditions in the past winter. On May 22, reefer stored garlic had the lowest Ex-work price at RMB 2.2/kg (USD 0.33/kg). Moreover, there is still over 1,000,000 MT of old garlic in stocks, which is historically the highest. Both farmers and stakeholders are put with big sales pressure from old garlic volume. The 2022 season is supposed to be a hard year of Chinese garlic sales. However, the low price of garlic is good for export, while the US dollar is appreciated more than the Chinese yuan. In the past March and April, it showed a good signal of export volume increasing, and the trend will continue in the following months. Meanwhile, the price increased in the past week. As more dry garlic is entering the market, the price of fresh garlic is rising.
