The UPRA (Colombian Rural Agricultural Planning Unit) has presented a plan for Colombia to increase its supply of corn during the upcoming years to handle local demand. The cornerstones of this project are grounded in utilizing to the fullest the 16.1M hectares available for growing this product and increasing the yield productivity from 5 tons/hectare to 9 tons/hectare yearly. Increasing local production will result in less reliance on corn imports.
