In Brittany, the most advanced area in France for sustainability, some retailers are starting to use returnable stainless steel packaging for meat and fish. The buyers appear to be willing to pay EUR 2-3 per reusable packaging they will bring back. The question arises whether a similar approach can be implemented for fruit and vegetables and whether market players would be willing to adopt this approach. With consumers becoming more environmentally conscious, reusable packaging appears to be a good option for the fruit and vegetable industries to consider.
