The season 2022 of Orri mandarin in Israel is almost over. One important importer of the product based in France (Rungis) commented that this season was bad in many ways compared to the previous 2 or 3 years; the quality problems on arrival due to adverse weather in origin, more volume arriving in the EU due to logistics bottlenecks, and a higher production cost. According to the importer, these big volumes arriving in the EU were not caused by a larger production of Orri mandarins, but due to logistic disruption and delays, creating an artificial oversupply at the market destination. Moreover, the quality was also a problem with fruit affected by the rain and subsequently presenting mold and fungus on arrival. Thus, the impact can clearly be seen in the price difference between 2021 and 2022. In 2021 the average sales price was EUR 2.0/kg. In 2022 the average sales price was EUR 1.5/kg, not considering the bad lots which were salvaged on different markets. The next season should be complicated as well because they are projecting a substantial increase in the exportable volume in 2023.
