Extreme hail and heavy rain continue to hit growing areas of asparagus in South East Victoria. Domestic demand for Australian asparagus has also increased due to holiday celebrations, and the hospitality industry's demand has picked up. Growers have reduced their export allocation by 30-40% compared to 2021. Preparations have already begun to import Mexican asparagus to relieve the domestic shortfall for the June-August period. Resultantly, prices have increased from the start of the season in early November 2022 by almost 30% FOB to USD 9.80–10.60/kg.
