Weather instability during the first weeks of March in Greece disrupts the cross-pollination of early-bearing trees and smaller plants. From early stone to pomme fruits, kiwi and early watermelons seem to be affected as natural insect pollination is halted by cold weather and thunderstorms. Many orchards in early areas were affected by warmer winter conditions that tricked plants and trees into entering an early or irregular blossoming phase. Early fruit yield is always the most lucrative, giving the best prices to producers, and usually, the first incoming fruits and vegetables dominate the rest of the season's market. All market players await to see if the coming weeks will compensate for the effects.
