East African Market Buys More Than 78% Of Tanzanian Cassava

Tanzania is planning to strengthen the cassava industry through the investment in factories and processing machines. East Africa, with a population of more than 472.5 million, is the main market, buying more than 78.2% of Tanzanian cassava. Current statistics indicate that between 2017 and 2021, an average of 49,555MT of cassava products were sold annually in the East African regional market, earning Tanzania USD 9.19M. Tanzania also imports cassava products, starch and flour from India, China, Pakistan and Turkey. In 2021, cassava imports into Tanzania were worth USD 4.72M (TZS 10.88 billion) for approximately 1,768MT.
