The strong decline is mainly linked to the decrease in shipments to the United Arab Emirates, the main destination for Brazilian egg sales. According to the data released this Monday (10/08), by the Centre of Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea), shipments of eggs for fresh consumption fell again in July, adding two consecutive months of decline.
According to data from Secex, the sector exported 68.1 tonnes in July, the second-lowest amount this year, behind only that of March, when 63.3 tonnes of the product was exported. Considering only the months of July, this is the lowest volume since 2006.
From June to July, the drop in shipments was 41.2% and, compared to July/19, a significant 74.1%. The strong decline is mainly linked to the decrease in shipments to the United Arab Emirates, the main destination for Brazilian egg sales. From January to July, shipments to the Arab country totaled 709 tons, a significant drop of 78.5% compared to the same period in 2019.
In the domestic market, there is an increase in the final demand for eggs at the beginning of August, as is typical for the period. Thus, sales increased and, consequently, prices were boosted.
