Eid Caused a Significant Increase in Meat Prices in Tanzania Due to Soaring Demand

The celebration of Eid al-Fitr caused a dramatic increase in meat prices all around Dar es Salaam, Tanzania due to soaring demand. The meat prices at Vingunguti abattoir wholesale butchers in Dar es Salaam have increased from about USD 2.76 before the end of Ramadan to USD 3.32–3.40/kg in W16. Surveys carried out at a number of butchers throughout the city, including Chamazi, Buza, Bunju, Segerea, Makuburi, and Kiwalani, revealed that the average retail price increased from USD 3.40/kg to USD 4.25/kg depending on the location.
