Export of Moroccan watermelon to Europe is decreasing

Export of Watermelon from Morocco to Europe is seeing a huge decrease as many countries like Spain, Italy and Greece have started harvest. This has impacted the prices offered by Moroccan exporters which decreased from USD 0.40 per kg to USD 0.28 kg. The decrease in export volume is also due to some rumors saying that the seeds used to grow watermelon in Morocco are genetically modified. This has been denied by the official Moroccan export control authorities.
