Exporting fruit to the Chinese market through the official channel has become a little troublesome due to the strict conditions. It is imperative that the product is produced in the growing area and packaged at a facility that is assigned a code by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. In addition, the facility must be approved by the China General Department of Customs. All products must meet the specified requirements, including planting site identification (often using GPS); must pay attention to the farming diary recording (must be well-kept and preserved to serve traceability when inspected by the competent authority) and regularly monitor any harmful organisms. They must practice good field hygiene to ensure that the density of pests is always low, ensure that there are no pesticide residues in excess of the permitted level according to the regulations of the importing country. In order to cater to the Chinese market 1,735 planting area codes with an area of over 180,000 hectares have been granted for 9 fresh fruits including dragon fruit, mango, longan, litchi, rambutan, watermelon, banana, jackfruit and mangosteen for official export.
