Farmers bet on productivity as margins for many Spanish products decrease

Farmers in the region of Almería, one of the most important for the Spanish agricultural sector, are replacing their tomato crops for bell pepper. The drop in profitability for many products is leading producers to drop crops such as tomato for others with higher margins. One of the main reasons behind the loss of profitability is the entrance of new incumbents into the European market. Suppliers from Morocco, Egypt, and South Africa, have been slowly but surely taking over what was traditionally Spain's main market.
