A good onion harvest last year led to a large supply and a correspondingly low price, which remained the same throughout Autumn. Farmers kept significant stocks of onions in storage until the spring, but the price did not grow enough. Given that onions have begun to actively deteriorate in storage, some farmers simply throw stocks away.
