Urea, potash, and phosphate which make up the bulk of the constituents of fertilizers used in Nigeria come from Russia and Ukraine. It is believed that this will also increase the cost of fertilizers in the country and affect food production. The composite food index rose by 17.22% in January 2022 on the back of increases in the prices of bread, cereals, tubers, food products, soft drinks, fruits, cooking oil, etc. Food prices are expected to rise in February 2022, exacerbated by the crippling energy crisis in the country.
