First barley container to ship to inland destination from Qingdao, China

On September 28, 2020, the first special train for imported grain loaded with 2500 tons of Australian barley from Ningxia was unloaded directly from Qingdao to Yinchuan, with value of more than 1 Million USD. This is the first time Ningxia has adopted bulk container transportation to inland destinations.

According to custom data, USA, Canada, and Australia have always been the main sources of import. However, due to multiple factors, since 2019, import from USA and Canada have declined, while Australian wheat import has maintained a relatively high level. From Jan. to Aug. 2020, wheat import has reached 5 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 137%, but the major import country was France.

In the first half of 2020, France wheat import reached 1.17 million tons, while Australian wheat import took second place at 1.09 million tons. However, in July 2020, French wheat imports almost stagnated while Australian wheat imports rose slightly to 1.14 million tons and Canadian wheat soared to 1.09 million tons.
