The South Jeolla Province announced that the nutritional labeling system for processed livestock products, which was previously applied only to certain items, will be fully expanded starting January to strengthen the public's right to know and to guide healthy eating habits. The nutritional labeling applies to companies that manufacture, process, divide, or import livestock products (including food). The nutritional components that must be labeled are ▲calories ▲sodium ▲carbohydrates ▲sugars ▲fat ▲trans fats ▲saturated fat ▲cholesterol ▲protein, totaling 9 items. The nutritional labeling system has been in operation since 1996 for certain items such as dairy products, ham, and sausage. With this expansion, items that were not previously subject to mandatory labeling, such as bacon, dried and stored meat, seasoned meat, and meat extract processed products, will now be included.
