The fishery sector in Australia had a positive balance this last year. The ABARES Fishing Status report of 2020 generated an estimated gross value of production of AU$ 437 million, which is 14 percent of Australia's total fisheries and aquaculture gross value of production of AU$ 3.1 billion. Australia prides itself as a nation of practicing sustainable fishing. Of the 96 fish stocks assessed, 66 were not overfished and not subject to overfishing.
