Colombia is on the way to improving its food security; this issue becomes relevant in times of global freight problems and the Russia-Ukraine war. Cereals such as corn, wheat, and soybeans are one of the pillars of food for both people and animals, being these key inputs, especially for the feed industry used in the production of poultry, pigs and cattle.

Although Colombia is considered an agricultural pantry due to its privileged location and climate, it continues to depend on imports of these types of foodstuffs from different origins. Particularly in corn, the figures have seen an improvement in domestic production, corn imports totaled 6,039,619 MT during 2021, 122,000 MT less than 2020. This decrease was covered by domestic production, as yellow corn production volume increased by 27.5% and production area increased by 34.5% in 2021. This trend is expected to continue.
