Goat farms are among the most affected by the increase in input prices in France

The industrial sales price index for goat cheese rose by only 1.3% in 2021 (and 2.3% for cheese under national brands). This low inflation in sales prices is problematic in a context of high-cost increases, both for breeding and processing. Indeed, in January 2022, even before the war in Ukraine and its consequences on the price explosion, the IPAMPA (purchase price index for agricultural inputs) purchased feed was already up 14.3% YoY, and 13.9% for the global IPAMPA. This gives a first measure of the current stress on goat milk production in France. The entire goat’s milk sector is therefore expecting a lot from the application of the EGALIM 2 law, which aims to protect the remuneration of farmers.
