The 2022 Greek watermelon season has concluded with the remaining volumes commissioned to supply the hotels and restaurants in the tourist areas of Greece. The 2022 season can be regarded as a golden season, with high prices, steady demand from June until the end of the season, and high demand from both the domestic and export market. The price the grower received never dipped below USD 0,28/kg throughout the season.
With the Greek season concluded, the European market is out of watermelons. The warm August in West Europe results in increased demand, with buyers across Europe continuously calling farmers, exporters and wholesalers in Greece for watermelon supply despite the season being over.
