During February 2022, the banana export value was USD 65.9M, an increase of 3% compared to USD 64M in February 2021. At the same time prices decreased by 6% compared to last year. Guatemalan exporters have tried to negotiate better prices mainly with US buyers but it has been really difficult. As costs of fertilizers, biosecurity, and certifications keep increasing, prices will need to be increased to maintain a sustainable business for banana production, which is one of the most important agricultural products exported in Guatemala.
