The lack of market access for Egyptian Oranges to the Russian market resulted in an oversupply of oranges destined for European markets. At the tail end of the Egyptian season, oranges were trading at EUR 6-7/kg. When the first South African orange shipments arrived in European markets they were trading at EUR 17/kg with the price soon dropping to EUR 12-13/kg still trading at double the price of Egyptian oranges despite sufficient volumes being in the market.
