Huge increase of prices of empty cans is pushing the price of canned sardines very high

Prices of canned sardines are experiencing an unprecedented significant increase, especially for 125 g, which is the most demanded product. Prices are now set at EUR/FOB 20.00-21.00 for one carton of 50 cans while only EUR/FOB 17.00-18.00 a few months ago. This considerable price increase is mainly due to the rise of the price of empty cans by 50%, which is the main cost element when it comes to measuring the final price of one can of sardines of 125g.
