In 2020, Portugal imported 100 million dollars worth of oranges from South Africa, which represents almost 73% of Portugal’s orange imports, but according to several buyers, in 2022, South Africa Oranges will lose their position, replaced by Spain for two reasons - Transport costs are lower because Spain is geographically closer, and Spain is offering competitive prices offered in order sell the gap in sales left by Russia and Ukraine, both important buyers of the Spanish oranges.
