As onion production experienced severe shortages globally, the situation worsened in New Zealand due to a very wet harvest season. Most farmers must wait for their soils to dry before they enter their fields to harvest. It resulted in significant harvest delays that, depending on the weather, would push back the export season by 3–4 weeks. Due to the terrible weather, they also anticipate significant quality issues. Prices are rising, and the trend will last until the first half of 2023. The Australian onion season has already kicked off with prices of around USD 23/20kg bag for sizes 75-85mm and 85-95mm.
