India continues to export fresh bananas with a high number of consignments going to Iran, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Bahrain. Majority of the small to mid-sized banana exporters export in the range of 1-5 containers per week from India to destination countries. Large exporters export about 20+ containers per week.
With better connectivity and shorter transit time, and year-long production, Indian bananas are competitive in middle eastern markets than others. Additionally, the number of Indians in UAE- comprising about 27% of the UAE’s population - presents a huge consumer base for Indian bananas. With more organized production, procurement, and packhouse operations, India has a robust supply base that will continue to become increasingly export-focused in the coming years.
