The season for Japanese chub mackerel is from November to February. Japanese chub mackerel is mainly produced in Hachinohe and the Pacific side of Chiba. In 2022, the catch slowed down, and leftovers from the last year are available, in addition to the remaining products caught in Kyushu. Products caught from Choshi are small, weighing between 100 and 200gr. Norwegian products are getting more expensive in 2022, and many Japanese processors are approaching domestic products. The catch of chub mackerel is not stable yet, but many factories have made provisional reservations. In 2022, the market price for 300gr is USD 1.80/kg (JPY 250/kg).
