From January to November 2022, the export volume of frozen yellowtail fillets climbed gradually from 2020, when the corona crisis caused it to decline. By beating 2021's record, which was the highest during the same period, the export volume in 2022 reached a record high of 9.4k tons (up 10% over the same period in 2021). The average FOB monthly unit price for the same item in 2022 was USD 18.64/kg (JPY 2.4k/kg) in November 2022 (up 22% from the same month in 2021), a record high. In 2022, the price was high at about USD 15.54/kg (JPY 2k/kg) from January to November. Domestic sales of farmed yellowtail from Kagoshima have been sluggish this winter due to high beach prices due to a shortage of fish in ponds. On the other hand, from January to October 2022, frozen yellowtail fillet exports reached record highs in quantity and price. Export volumes are forecasted to be lower in early 2023 due to a lack of stock in the pond. Sales of frozen yellowtail fillets for export have been strong since 2022.
