Kenyan maize traded at USD 49.59/90kg bag (Ksh. 6000) in W46 which is 20% higher compared to last week’s USD 41.32/90kg bag. Traders attribute the increase in maize prices to hoarding by farmers and that Tanzania and Uganda are shifting their exports to the Middle East, DRC and South Sudan. Kenya is projected to deplete its domestically produced maize stock by the end of January 2023, which will likely add more pressure on product prices.
