Canadian McIntosh apples are being phased out of production in the Province of Quebec as consumer preferences have shifted towards crunchier, sweeter apples. Farmers in the province are slowly moving away from MacIntosh production in favor of more popular and profitable varieties. This is unfortunate news as the McIntosh was considered by some as Canada's National Apple, but the variety's inablility to hold its crunch compared to other domestic and international apples has made it uneconomical.
