The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food (MAGA) evaluated the actions implemented in 2021 to benefit the pig sector in Guatemala. Members of the Association of Pork Producers in Guatemala (APOGUA) participated. The Vice Ministry of Agricultural Health and Regulations (VISAR) promotes comprehensive care through the National Pig Health Program (Pronasporc). Their main objectives are control, diagnosis, prevention, epidemiological surveillance, and eradication of diseases that affect national production or constitute a risk to public health, national and international trade in pigs, their products, and by-products. President of Apogua stated that these meetings improve work and strengthen public-private alliances for the benefit of the sector. He stressed that they are reinforcing all controls to prevent the African Swine Fever (ASF), detected in the Dominican Republic, from reaching Guatemalan territory.
