On August 3rd, the price of onions in the Delhi wholesale market experienced fluctuations influenced by supply variations and quality considerations. While onion prices have declined for the past month, the market has witnessed a recent upward trend with daily increases of USD 0.024-0.048/kg (INR 2-4/kg). This increase is forecasted to continue until August 15th, driven by supplies from regions such as Maharashtra (MH) and Madhya Pradesh (MP), potentially leading to a price rise of USD 0.060-0.12/kg (INR 5-10/kg) from the current levels. The onion market is projected to remain elevated until October, after which a decline is anticipated due to concerns about quality and aging stock. This downward trend might persist until December, as predicted by wholesalers in the Delhi market.

In the context of exports, India sends 200 trucks of onions daily to Bangladesh. In Delhi's wholesale market, an influx of 80 trucks of onions was recently observed. Presently, the available onion stock in Delhi consists of 15%-20% good quality and 70%-80% medium quality onions. In the Nashik onion wholesale market, prices vary based on quality and size. Export-quality onions in Nashik stood at USD 0.14-0.18/kg (INR 12-15/kg) for sizes 40+ and 50+, USD 0.13/kg (INR 11/kg) for mid-sized onions, and USD 0.097-0.13/kg (INR 8-11/kg) for smaller-sized onions. B-grade onions are priced at USD 0.048-0.11/kg (INR 4-9/kg).

Notably, different varieties and qualities are available from the regions:
Nashik: "Chopra" variety, used primarily for restaurants after grading, comes in low to mid-range quality with the skin peeled. It is priced at USD 4.83-6.04/40kg (INR 400-500/40kg) for low-quality and smaller sizes, and USD 7.24-9.66/40kg (INR 600-800/40 kg for mid-quality.
