This year, the campaign for Spanish oranges export has decreased due to higher freight costs and mainly to longer transit times. In previous campaigns, suppliers that used to export overseas to Canada or Korea were not willing to take the risk this season. They are not willing to take the risk; they prefer to fulfill their European clients instead.
Big citrus companies exporting to Korea are not exporting this year due to the uncertainty of transit time. Logistics companies explained that in the past, an average transit time from Spain to Korea was 31 days, but this year, due to the congestion in ports, transit time can take up to 50 days or 60 days. They explained that this scenario negatively affects the citrus industry and other sectors such as refrigerated products (meat).
