Following the end of the Okitsu variety, the satsuma campaign continues to advance in November with the Owari variety and is expected to last another 2-3 weeks. Heavy rains in April 2022 caused many flowers to be lost from the trees, which increased the amount of category II satsuma produced from the second bloom, accounting for 20% of the total harvest amount. However, the robust demand and current high price of satsuma mandarin in W44, which is at USD 1.20/kg EXW Spain, offset the loss of high-quality satsuma. Additionally, to minimise the risk, the producers did not consider other export destinations as the current yield is not even able to meet demand in the European market, especially from the UK.
