Russia and Ukraine are major global wheat exporters. They export more than a quarter (25.4 %) of the world’s wheat together. In case of a war, the flow of wheat and grain could be disrupted. In addition, freight rates could become more expensive with higher insurance premiums. One of the biggest wheat importers of Russian wheat, Turkey, is now looking for alternative origins like Canada and Mexico. Many manufacturers have already been using Canadian and Mexican wheat, and they claim that currently, there is no shortage of wheat.
