Brazilian shipments of lemons and limes were more restricted during the first quarter of 2021 compared to the same period last year. However in April, exports of the tahiti lime rebound, registering the highest monthly volume of the year so far. According to data from Secex (Secretariat of Foreign Trade), shipments for the month totaled 14.63 thousand tons, with revenues of US $ 11.22 million, a number that has made the accumulated of the season so far positive. Compared to March, the figures were 15% higher in revenue and 21.5% in volume.
The supply in April also presented significant improvements in benefit of exports, supported by two main factors: first, the droughts all across the producing regions had eased, and second the domestic demand declined as the temperatures has been gradually decreasing, due to the end of the summer. As quality and ripening are positive for the standard citrus products at this point, exports surge as a better outlet for the produce.
Another point to be highlighted is the gradual reopening of business at buyer markets due to the progress of COVID-19 vaccine program, and consequently, the greater international demand. Sector agents indicate that the most attractive prices for exports and the indications of lower Sicilian lemon production in Argentina also favors Tahiti from Brazil.
