Peruvian Fig Producers and Exporters Looking to Increase Fig Exports to Asia in the 2022-2023 Season

The 2022-2023 Peruvian fresh fig season started, with Europe and Canada as the largest export markets. These markets request big fruit sizes, from caliber 13 to 20, packed in 1kg boxes, which is why small calibers are usually sold as waste or exported at low prices. Since 2021, Peruvian fig producers and exporters tried to increase exports to Asia (Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia) as the Asian market demands smaller size calibers from 20 to 27 to sell smaller figs at better prices. Forecasts indicate that the production volume for the 2022-2023 Peruvian fig season will increase, allowing higher exports.
