Peruvian organic coffee in the EU

Peruvian Organic coffee exports (Jan - Nov), totaled 27,080 mt, which represented 17% of the total shipments of coffee exports. Compared to the same period 2019, the supply of organic coffee has doubled showing the preference of producers to grow this product. This preference responds to the better price of organic coffee over conventional, organic rate is US $ 3.50 per kilogram, +11% over conventional. The most important market for organic coffee in 2020 was Europe, with 57% share.

The Center for the Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries (CBI), highlighted the potential of the EU as a market for organic coffee where 130,000 mt of organic coffee were imported (3.5% of the total imports of the bean in the EU). In fact, the EU per capita consumption of organic food increased from 34 to 51 euros per person between 2014 and 2018, considerably higher compared to the world average of 13 euros per capita.
