The water deficit begins to generate large economic losses in the agricultural sector in the Piura region, this due to the constant water cuts and especially the reduction in the provision of this resource to the Irrigation Boards by the absence of rain.
About 80 thousand farmers that depend on the Poechos reservoir, which registers very low storage of water resources will be affected. The same panorama can be seen in the San Lorenzo reservoir, so the crops in the valley of the same name have already been lost.
The losses in rice crops will reach S/ 25 million (peruvian soles). There are an average of 1,000 hectares of rice affected. The only solution dependes in rains starts in December to be able to accumulate water.
Among other products that might be affected we found: lemon, banana and mango.
