The History, strong commercial relations and nonexistence of a language barrier are some of the reasons why Brazil is an excellent and appealing market for Portuguese wines. However, Portuguese exporting producers are not only looking at those factors.

Since 2010, the wine consumption has doubled and nowadays 36% of the adult from apporximately a total 212M of Brazilian population is a wine drinker. Also, imported wine has a 34% of market share, as Chile the leading country.

Wine preference goes to red in the first place, white and rosé being this last one the one that has the higher growth rate in the last year, about 34%. On what comes to grape varieties, preferences go to Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. One of the biggest chain retailers, is expecting to sell more than 1M bottles during the Easter season.

Some interesting information that producers should take into consideration and if they are already an exporter and don’t ship their product to this country, the question that poses is: “Why not?”.
