Portuguese Pork Production Landscape

Portuguese Pork production meets about 85% of the Portuguese domestic market demand, meaning that Portugal is still a pork importer, mainly from neighboring countries, namely Spain. In 2022 some significant investments will be made to improve this industry with a better organization of producers and more suitable facilities with better technology concerning measures to be more environmentally friendly.

Some of the significant issues being addressed are the efforts to keep free from the African swine flew, a new certification towards animal well-being, and the expansion to new markets such as South Korea, USA, Philippines, Malaysia, Mexico, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, and Vietnam. This approach is being worked with official government authorities.
