Price increase and deficiency of hatching egg may reduce meat production in Russia

Due to the lack of own producers, Russian poultry companies are forced to purchase hatching eggs abroad. According to poultry farmers, there is a shortage of hatching eggs, and prices have increased significantly compared to last year: in September 2020, one egg cost 16-17 RUB. In February, its cost almost doubled to 30 RUB a piece.
The price rise is associated with outbreaks of avian flu in some countries and higher feed and lysine prices. Against this background, poultry factories, which provide 20% of the Russian poultry meat market, may soon reduce their output.
