The prices of red chili are rising in India. The crop was hit by pest attack and damage from unconditional rainfall in south-producing states. Lower yields have increased prices by more than 80% in four months to a record high, and prices are likely to stay high throughout the year, forcing overseas buyers to shell out more at a time when the prices of fuel and other food ingredients are also soaring. FPOs (Farm Producer Organizations) said farmers uprooted the plants during the flowering stage in many zones. As a result, farmers fear an output drop.
